Ethical USA Children's Clothing Shop Uses Organic Fibers

By Bertulda Zerna

The environment is something everyone needs to be concerned about. Chemicals can do a lot of damage and cotton that is traditionally grown for textile use is loaded with herbicides and pesticides. It is possible to find products constructed from purely organic cottons with a USA children's clothing company.

Organic cotton tends to be softer and more comfortable against the tender sensitive skin of young people. Ordinary cottons typically contain a good deal of the chemical products that were used to treat them as crops, even after several washings. Many people, especially kids, who have been labeled as having a cotton allergy, are actually have reactions to caustic materials such as dyes or formaldehyde, that were introduced during processing.

Most of the benefits, however, are environmental. Conventional cotton uses 25% of the insecticides and 10% of the other pesticides used worldwide, whilst being grown on only 3% of cultivated land. Avoiding pesticide use also helps improve the health of cotton farmers, and in some areas producing organic cotton has actually turned out to be cheaper. Organic cotton farmers avoid pesticide use by deliberately releasing beneficial insects and using state of the art machinery to kill weeds.

By buying organic cotton you also contribute to increasing the demand and therefore reducing cases of cotton harvesters (cotton is still mostly harvested by hand) being sickened by pesticide and, ultimately, reducing the cost of organic cotton fabric and the clothing made from it.

Even if there are no recent studies that show end users gain health advantages from using organic fabrics, consumers who purchase them are benefiting the well being of those who work the farms and the environment, while showing other cultivators that they can create marketable products without the use of pesticides and chemicals.

As a general rule, organic fibers are more durable and of a higher range of quality, particularly if they have been colored with natural dyes instead of synthetic ones, which often wear down and weaken the fibers. While shopping, read the labels on the clothes and consider the responsible option. The little extra it may cost will be worth it.
