Festival Fashion The Right Wardrobe For A Music Festival

By David Burns

Summer months bring with them a lot of music festivals, which are usually the best alternative for someone who may not find the time or finance to take a vacation out of the country. The music experience will always deliver a chance for a memorable time; but small issues, such as wearing the wrong wardrobe, can often prove a spoiler on an enjoyable event. A little prior planning should ensure that everything runs as expected, including your festival fashion.

The summer season in the UK is virtually non-existent, as you all know, what we normally get is a very low-level monsoon - constant, drizzly, rain. However, if you know how to dress for this weather, you can guarantee yourself a great time at any of our festivals, and make sure that you never miss your favorite acts.

Many people go along to these festivals purely for the atmosphere and the music, caring very little about their wardrobes, and you can take a leaf out of their books. Understated is always the way to go, stick to tried and tested clothing, such as cut off jeans or mini denim skirts, team with a funky graphic tees and you will look trendy without having to try too hard, or better yet, spend any money.

Both denim shorts and skirts look great with a pair of trendy wellies, and there are many different styles of wellies to choose from, all of which will protect your feet from the rain and mud. This, if you ask any hardened festival frequenter, is essential.

OK, so shorts and skirts are great if the sun is shining, but what do you do if it rains? Well, again, wellies are essential. So too is a mackintosh. Plenty of different styles of mackintosh are on sale now, and are perfect for festival-goer. The trick is to select a style that reflects current fashion trends, any with a funky graphic print, or floral print, or animal print, is ideal. Always choose PVC or other type of water-resistant material.

These styles of Mackintosh are great because they go with casual clothing, such as jeans and a t-shirt, or combat trousers and knitted jumpers, so they never look out of place with contemporary fashions. You want to show your fun-loving side when at a festival, so select clothing that is bright, bold, and a little playful.

If it is sunny, a simple T-shirt and a pair of briefs should be okay; but at colder or showery times, wearing more clothing is important. A light, jacket is good but if you forget one then most campsites may be selling ponchos. Combat trousers have many pockets, which is handy for storing your festival essentials while taking a sweater to put on at night makes the area a bit more reasonable.

Finally, you need a handbag and some sunglasses. Handbags are easy, opt for an over-sized bag in a neutral color and natural material - a brown anodyne tote bag would be ideal. By way of sunglasses, choose a design that suits your face, and they will usually look fantastic.
