Buying High End Pre Owned Clothing

By Joyce Butler

Saving money on clothes is easier than ever today. Charities of every kind open thrift shops, consignment shops are flourishing, and online high end pre owned clothing sites make browsing convenient. There are many advantages to completing your wardrobe with almost unbelievable bargains.

There is good reason that these retail outlets are popular. People love the uncertainty of this kind of shopping. Instead of knowing what you'll see, you're constantly being surprised. When looking for summer dresses, you might find the perfect Fendi boots. When what you need are beige pumps to match a suit, you walk out of the store with Rockport or Bass sandals.

In contrast, thrift shopping online lets you tell the site what you're looking for. On a good day, you'll find it. Most shopping sites have great pictures of the items for sale. Make sure that you like the return policies. On some sites, you can check the rating of sellers to see how satisfied former customers have been.

There are other reasons - in addition to the fun of a thrift shop and the convenience of an online consignment shop or auction site - that keep people coming back for more. For one thing, you can often find better quality things in not-new shops than you can in local stores. While the department store in the strip might offer Faded Glory, 'Second Time Around' could have Eddie Bauer. It's not unusual to see bargain brands hung side by side with Ralph Lauren, Talbot, and Gloria Vanderbilt.

Wedding dresses are one item with which you can really score. Think of it. A fabulous dress, worn once and not really suitable ever again. Why spend thousands when you can have all the fun of finding the perfect dress and saving bundles for the honeymoon? There are often specialty shops that offer a wide selection of dresses that might have been worn by the daughter of a Congressman or a movie star. You can also go online. Choose a site that offers a generous return policy, so you can try dresses on and only keep the one that meets your heart's desire.

Maybe you love fashion magazines and exclusive catalogs but never order something from them for full price. If you then find it at a not-new shop or on an auction site, it's a real thrill. Perhaps it's a pair of Jimmy Choos or a Talbot cashmere sweater in your favorite shade. Maybe it's those jeans you have been craving, or a workout suit that makes you feel svelte already.

It's fun to find quality items that are good as new. Why should a work of fabric art be thrown away when it has so much still to give? Recycling the finer things of life benefits others, if it's in a charity shop, and benefits those who see how good you look in them.

Sometimes buying a designer brand when the world is starving feels wrong (but, of course, the industry needs buyers as well as creators). However, you can shop in the not new category without guilt. You can have a budget and keep to it, all the while enjoying the best in casual or formal wear.
