Process In Forming A Pearl

By Sandra Sullivan

For over many years that passed the pearls, very extraordinary gems, were considered as one of the most beautiful treasures that can be found on the seabed and on oysters. It was used as jewelry for women, people created a way for it to be a part of fashion. Before it becomes a Hawaiian Pearl Jewelry, take a look at how this beautiful thing was formed.

Conchiolin and Calcium Carbonate is what a pearl is made up. Most people considered that natural ones made through an accidental process. Because the starting point of this is done through a tiny parasite who wants to enter mollusk.

Natural pearls are formed through a parasite, which is referred to as an irritant. This thing makes its own way to enter either into a clam, mussel, or oyster. When the oyster, then, will create a defensive mechanism, a fluid that is mainly being used as a hard coating for the irritant. The liquid coating is made up is calcium carbonate and conchiolin.

When this process is repeatedly done by the same mollusk, along the way a nacre or pearl will be made. The estimated time for this procedure could take up to more than three years. It could form into several shapes, and the most spherical one, which what most jewelry makers use, is considered the rarest.

The cultural pearl is formed when the shell response to a tissue being implanted to it. This tissue called the graft. The process starts when a graft from another shell if donated to a recipient shell. This then will cause a reaction. A sac will develop into which the graft precipitates an essential calcium, which will develop into a nacre.

There have been many methods used in producing a cultured one. It could either be using shells from freshwater or seawater, transplanting the tissue into the shell, or adding a round bead as a nucleus. Unlike the natural type, this is made both by human and also natural occurrences.

Another type of nacre can be easily created, this is called the imitation pearl. A round glass bead is created, and dipping it into a liquid mixture that is made up of fish scales. After dipping it, a fake one is created. The real nacre s heavy and these are not, also the coating is just thin.

Imitation pearl, on the other hand, is formed differently from the other two. This is not done through a long process. Most likely referred to as the fake type of bead. But, you can easily determine if one is fake when you rub it across your teeth, if it glides, then it truly is a fake one.

Forming a real single pearl could take years before divers get it and jewelry makers use it as part of the jewels they are making. Even in the long procedure, a beautiful thing will be put into existence. So if you have any of this special gem, take good care of it because it was made in an extraordinary way.
